Una banda que en sus inicios logro mezclar el virtuosismo de los hermanos Van Halen con la frescura de David Lee Roth.
El último álbum de su formación original fue 1984, de donde salió su mejor y más influyente canción de todos los tiempos, Jump.
Jump llegó a ser #1 en el ranking de Billboard y llego a vender más de 3 millones de sencillos.
Jump fue una canción que quebró el molde de las canciones anteriores de Van Halen, particularmente por el papel preponderante que toman los sintetizadores.
El exito de Jump fue porque logró amalgamar los dos generos más importantes de los ochentas; el pop basado en sintetizadores con el estilo metalero.
De ahí en adelante cambiaría el estilo y futuro de Van Halen pasando de ser una banda predominante de Hard Rock a un estilo popular de música más dirigida a los radio oyentes.
Jump sería también el final de la formación clásica de la banda, pues después de este álbum, David Lee Roth se separaría de los hermanos Van Halen.
