La entrada 100 de Retrorockola: Queen of Hearts - Juice Newton (Video, Lyrics & Chords)

Esta canción la he estado escuchando en diversos lugares durante estos días, incluso hoy en la mañana me despertó un vecino teniéndola a todo volumen, algo raro para una canción de 1981 (en especial porque el vecino aún no había nacido cuando salió).

Por eso creo que se merece que la recordemos en esta Retrorockola y volvamos al pasado con esta canción de Juice Newton

"Queen of Hearts" es una canción escrita por Hank DeVito.

La canción apareció en el álbum de 1979 de Dave Edmunds Repeat When Necessary y el sencillo alcanzó el puesto 11 en las listas de popularidad del Reino Unido.

Dos años más tarde, Juice Newton lanzó la canción como un sencillo, alcanzando el puesto #2 en la listas de popularidad de los Estados Unidos. La versión de Newton vendió más de un millón de copias y llegó al top 10 de varios países, incluyendo Canadá y Australia.

La canción apareció originalmente en su álbum de 1981 Juice.

Por su grabación de "Queen of Hearts", Newton obtuvo una nominación al Premio Grammy a la Mejor Interpretación Vocal Femenina - Country en 1982.

Eternal Flame es una de las mejores baladas de todos los tiempos, interpretado el grupo femenino The Bangles.

Esta canción se inspiró en una visita del grupo a Graceland, donde se mantiene una "llama eterna" en honor a Elvis Presley.

The Bangles estaba constituido por Susana Hoffs (voz y guitarra); Vicki Peterson (voz, bajo y guitarra); Debbi Peterson (bajo, voz y bateria); Annette Zilinskas (voz y bajo entre 1982 y 1983) y Michael Steele (apoyo en voz, bajo y guitarras entre 1983 y 2005).

Cuando The Bangles lanzó Eternal Flame en 1988 se encontraban en la cima del éxito. El año anterior habían tenido su megaexito Walk Like an Egyptian, que llegó a ser disco del año.

Pero para cuando lanzaron el disco Everything, donde se encuentra Eternal Flame, ya existian bastante roces dentro del grupo, que terminarian por disolverlo y no volverian a juntarse hasta el 2001.

Bing Crosby y David Bowie en un gran dueto navideño

Bing Crosby y David Bowie cantaron juntos el villancico "El Tamborilero" (The Little Drummer Boy) para un programa navideño en 1977, en lo que ha sido considerado por la revista TV Guide como uno de los mejores momentos musicales del Siglo Veinte.

El video esta canción se hizo se hizo el 11 de Setiembre de 1977, cuando Bing Crosby estaba filmando en Europa su Especial Navideño Anual número 42.

Sin embargo, el resto del mundo no lo vio hasta el 30 de Noviembre de ese año.

Lamentablemente Bing Crosby no pudo ver la canción pues falleció un mes despues de grabarla.

Contemos la historia de la canción.

Mientras Bing Crosby estaba en Londres, él expresó su interés en tener una estrella joven en su especial de ese año.

Alguien le sugirió que David Bowie sería una buena opción y después de discutirlo con sus hijos, Bing Crosby invitó a David Bowie.

Como David Bowie era un gran fan de Bing Crosby acepto participar en ese programa.

Bing Crosby eligió la canción "El Tamborilero" (The Little Drummer Boy), pero David Bowie no sentía que esa canción fuese apropiada para su voz.

Los escritores vinieron a ayudarlos con el segmento "Paz en la Tierra" para que lo cante David Bowie.

Y en solo una hora y solo tres intentos la canción estaba lista.
