Originalmente hecha por The Arrows en 1975, Joan Jett al escucharla en un programa de TV decidió grabarla en 1979 con la ayuda de 2 músicos de los Sex Pistols, Steve Jones and Paul Cook, pero esa versión no tuvo mayor éxito.

El Himno de la Generación X (Smells Like Teen Spirit)

iLa Generación X es el nombre como se le llamó a las personas nacidas en los años 1970. Se debaten las fechas exactas que definen a esta generación, pero se suele considerar rangos como 1963-1978 o 1961-1980. También se ha definido como las personas que vivieron sus años de adolescencia en los años 1980, nacidos tras los del baby boom.

El término se acuñó en 1964, para definir una serie de conductas en los jóvenes británicos que rompían las pautas y costumbres anteriores.

Se considera que esta generación es la que ha vivido de todo: desde la televisión en blanco y negro, a los gigantescos televisores a color. Gente que ha jugado a las canicas, a la cuerda, y al Playstation.

Una generación que pasó por la caída del comunismo, la aparición del Sida y el internet.

Hubo un grupo y una canción que definió el sentir de esta generación; Nirvana con su excelente canción "Smells Like Teen Spirit".

Esta canción interpretada por Kurt Cobain, marcó el inicio del género Grunge y la popularidad posterior del rock alternativo, y el fin del rock de los ochenta, dominada por bandas de glam metal o retro.

Kurt Cobain, a quien le desagrado el éxito de esta canción, dijo en una entrevista de MTV: "Me doy cuenta que la gente espera un ángulo más temático con nuestra música, sabes, ellos quieren "leerla". Pero lo que hice fue colocar pedazos de poesía y solo basura y material que me encantaba en aquel entonces, y muchas veces escribo letras sólo en el último minuto porque soy muy perezoso, entonces no entiendo porque la gente intenta buscarle algún significado."

A la gente de la Generación X le encantó esta canción a pesar de su evidente falta de significado.

Y así se convirtió en una de las canciones más importantes de todos los tiempos.

Este fue el primer éxito de la tristemente fallecida (por anorexia) Karen Carpenter de The Carpenters.

(They Long to Be) Close to You" es una popular canción escrita por Burt Bacharach y Hal David.

Inicialmente fue grabada en 1963 por el recordado Dr. Kildere, Richard Chamberrlain, pero no tuvo mucho éxito; más adelante en 1964 lo grabó Dionne Warwick; pero no fue hasta 1970 que esta canción se convirtió en un éxito por la interpretación de los Carpenters.

Herp Albert le presentó esta canción a Richard Carpenter a principios de 1970, quien al principio no tenía mucha confianza en esta canción; pero decidió trabajar en ella con Herp Albert y decidieron grabarla en mayo de 1970.

Sonny and Cher fue uno de los dúos más populares de los 60's y posiblemente los máximos iconos culturales del movimiento Hippie.

Su canción "I got you babe", fue una de las más populares de los años 60' y hasta el día de hoy es recordada.
